Life Matters - May 4, 2022
The American decline in morality moved insidiously, not unlike the slithering of a snake, or the slow rising of a tide, but now it bites, indiscriminately injecting its venom and turns away, washing itself of any collateral damage as the tide clears any sign of its passage. But what it cannot hide is the colossal carnage in its wake. For this country boy, raised in the simplicity of Amish farm life, it is a carnage hard to fathom and even harder to understand. I have been, and still am, tempted to follow the example of the ostrich who buries its head in the sand to still its fears by ignoring the threats in its life. But I have more to think about than just myself. I cannot bury my head in the sand. At least I cannot with a clear conscience. I am of the persuasion that very possibly the reason we are shown a problem is God leading us to see it because He wants us to do something about it. Perhaps the reason we see the problem is because of the Holy Spirit, as Uncle Mordecai speaking for God to Queen Esther (our conscience) saying, “...Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house (America?), more than all the Jews. (Us?) For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews (God’s people) from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou (Us) art come to the kingdom (America) for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13-14)
We are faced with insidious threats to our faith such as America has never known. May I say, the world has never known? One of the more obvious threats is sodomy gone mainstream. Given that God calls gender-confused people fools (Rom. Ch. 1) and given that President Biden and his team are gender-confused, we can expect every other vice known to man to come oozing out of D.C. Not that every other vice will, but the possibility is certainly there, and is a wake-up call that many are heeding, and having backlash for it. From being gender-affirming about plain biological facts, affirming the sovereignty of national boarders, affirming parental rights to oversee what their children are taught in school, affirming the right of states to ensure voter integrity, to affirming the First Amendment of free speech itself, those who speak up for such are facing a backlash that would have been unthinkable in the America I was born into in 1960. Indeed, the so-called “Disinformation Governance Board” is a wake-up call to all Americans who still value free speech and a free press. Many of the press and social media has already been pressured into being left-leaning government operatives. Allowing the government oversight over “disinformation” and thus looking to it as the arbiter of “Truth” is another step toward bowing at the altar of big government, which is as unthinkable now as it ever has been. We also have an object lesson before us concerning the danger of looking to the fear of man for truth. The fickleness of man is clearly shown to us by this administration not being able to describe a woman. Or a man. Because of its desire to be “inclusive,” its nice-sounding word for accepting, even promoting, immoral perversions.
Let us not despair, however, as God Himself has given us the privilege, given us the Great Commission, for Free Speech. Within the bounds of His Law. “And Jesus came and spoke unto them saying, ‘all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world’, Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
