The Leftist Liberals seem to think they can keep their nose in Das Kapital while straddling the fence with both feet firmly planted in mid-air and keeping both ears to the ground. I would venture to say that the helpless flailing of limbs impairs the hearing. And that the law of gravity will have its way.

Totalitarianism and Liberty have always been, and always will be, the antithesis of each other. The firm ground of Liberty is not to be found in the thin air of Totalitarianism. Not that it hasn't been tried. In Russia. In Ukraine. In Romania. In China. In Cuba, etc. Marxism's promise of liberty has been followed by the most oppressive regimes the world has ever known. While the promise of liberty in a utopian workers' paradise, with the promise of government fading away as its citizens evolve into reasonable people dedicated to the common good of all, was being taught, the "temporary" ruling class consistently contradicted its own message. And, 100 years later, is still doing so. All pretense of government fading away has been dropped decades ago. The rider dangling a carrot, tied to a stick, in front of the nose of his stubborn donkey has long ago dismounted and worn out his stick, with many another stick, in the desperate attempt to beat his ride into submission. The utopian promise of Marxism has consistently sunk into the ignominy of hatred, violence and murder within its own ranks and against its fellow citizens.

Wherefore?

"The doorstep to the temple of wisdom," said the effective Gospel evangelist, Charles Spurgeon, "is a knowledge of our own ignorance.” Spurgeon understood what all of us need to learn, that true, lasting wisdom comes from one true, lasting source, Jehovah God and is imparted to us through Jesus Christ by His Holy Spirit. The more we become aware that dependence upon ourselves for wisdom only leads us into darker ignorance, the more our hearts and minds open to receive the wisdom from above. The wisdom from above that is “first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." (James 3:17-18) In the verses prior, the inspired Word of God speaks also of a wisdom that is not from above, but is full of envying, strife, confusion, is earthly, sensual and devilish.

The Marxists, the “Flower children" of the 60s and the Liberal left have a number of commonalities, not the least of which is a persistent pervasive belief in group autonomy. An autonomy departed and departing from God and His ways. And as that departure becomes ever more clear on the Left, the divide between them and faith in Christ becomes ever wider, deeper and like a “great gulf fixed.” (Luke 16:26) The only hope for all of us is in and through Jesus Christ. So, my fellow Christians, there is hope. No matter if saints or tyrants rule, we are free. Our liberty has been bought and paid for, by the blood of Jesus Christ, shed for our redemption. As we become and stay aware of our undoneness and ultimate dependence upon Jesus Christ and in repentance receive Him into our hearts, minds, and life then He also receives us to be citizens in His Kingdom. The Kingdom of God, the only lawful worldwide kingdom without boundaries. It has no borders. It is a kingdom which the god of this world, the devil, wishes to duplicate, but like counterfeit money, a counterfeit kingdom has no value. The law of gravity will have its way. For God has created and upholds the laws of nature. And God upholds the courage and the fortitude of His children. What or whom we turn to for wisdom and courage will also be what or whom we worship. "Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you." (James 4:18) Life Matters!
